YARDSTICK CLASSIFICATIONS

PRIMARY NUMBERS (PY), SECONDARY NUMBERS (SY) and RECORDED NUMBERS (RN) are Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers published annually by the RYA in YR2, available online at www.rya.org.uk/KnowledgeBase/technical/pys.htm

 

TRIAL NUMBERS (TN) are Portsmouth Yardstick numbers allocated by the PPSA Handicapper until a CLUB NUMBER has been assessed.

 

CLUB NUMBERS (CN) are Portsmouth Yardstick Numbers allocated by the PPSA Handicapper. CLUB NUMBERS are derived from TRIAL NUMBERS or from numbers in YR2, adjusted as necessary by the PPSA Handicapper

 

 

MEASUREMENT of J and LP

(a)    J – The Fore Triangle Base is the distance measured horizontally from the forward face of the mast to where the forestay meets the deck or to the jib outhaul if the Yacht is rigged with a bowsprit.

(b)    LP – The longest distance found on any headsail that may be set up for windward sailing, measured perpendicularly from the luff to the extremity of the sail at the clew.
